At the outset, we guarantee that you will be given all the information we have on the properties
you are interested in. Should you require a survey of your chosen property, we will organise this
for you. Our experienced staff are happy to advise on any alterations or renovation work you
may wish to carry out, and our legal advisor is on hand to guide you through local planning
regulations, should this be appropriate. When you have decided on your direction, we can also
recommend a number of trusted local suppliers and tradesmen who will be happy to help in
estimating the costs involved. Finally, practical advice will be provided on getting the power
services connected to your new home.

On the financial side, the Portuguese property system has certain requirements for overseas
buyers, which need to be addressed before proceeding with a purchase. First, we recommend
that you open a bank account in the area where you intend to buy. Then, you will need to apply
for a Fiscal Number (Cartao de Contribuiente
) - it's almost impossible to buy anything of any value
in Portugal without one! Finally, there's the business of transferring the money for the purchase of
your new home from the UK into your Portuguese account (a sizeable amount can be saved by
going through the right channels). Portugal Rural's team are happy to pass on their knowledge and
experience on all these matters, and make the necessary introductions, so that your purchase
goes ahead smoothly and at minimum cost to you.

Calculating the total cost of your new home

Simply calculate the IMT on the property of your choice, add it to our published price and you
have the cost of your new home!
